WOT, Wot, What? Firefox Add-on safe surfing

I thought I would share this with you, It is a Firefox Add-on I think you may be interested in. I know after spending days “fixing” the slow computers of my family and friend’s that swear they “never” download or open attachments or visit less than the most pristine of sites! (sure) Anyway, WOT (Web Of Trust) got installed on their computer’s for them with a brief explanation on wot and y, ahhh sorry what and why.
I find WOT to be a very unobtrusive, and very useful extension that may very well save you some time, if you are the “guy” (or gal) everyone comes to when their system gets sluggish, you may very well want to suggest that they install this add-on! WOT will show a rating icon next to each site in search results from Google, Wiki, Yahoo and others. It also places a rating icon right next to the address bar to check the site you are on!
WOT uses the experiences of other peoples browsing experiences, and databases of known malicious sites. Trustworthiness, Vendor Reliability, Privacy, and Child Safety are the categories, that are rated by a color scale. A five color scale is used that goes from red to green. If you see a red icon you will be warned before you can proceed. This is great! It prevents “accidental” malicious site surfing.

This sounds great. I actually used to teach college students classes in how you can tell if a site is trustworthy or not. But sometimes I am browsing sites so quickly I don’t take the time to practice which I preach. Hopefully this red icon would stand out enough to alert me to stop! Thanks for the recommendation.
