Twitter is becoming another way to generate traffic to blogs. This is why most of the bloggers now turn to twitter and follow many and hoping that they will gain followers faster. Obviously, they must be new to twitter. I did the same thing, but now, I’m cutting back down all the numbers from 2400 to 1800 and dropping… I will only follow those who follows me after this…

Atniz, you are absolutely right, many bloggers first look at Twitter as a source for traffic. And when you are new, the first idea that comes to mind is to follow as many people with similar interests as possible so that at least some of them will follow you back. But the problem is that it rarely happens – only those people that you are actively engaged in conversations on Twitter will actually care about your content, no one else will. So these spammers will probably get only a handful of followers (those that do not even bother to look at the recent updates and followers stats) and will leave as soon as they reach the cap in following number. So if you actually give a moment to every new follower to see how legitimate content is, such spam issues will hardly effect you at all.

Yes, Spammers are finding Twitter and friending us all. I usually wait a while before friending someone (more out of my convenience) and many of them fall off (I think Twitter looks to see accounts that are receiving a significant number of blocks, heavy friend adding, etc. and killing the accounts).
Still, I think Twitter is an excellent tool, not just for marketing, but as a learning tool.

I haven’t even thought of friending people so that they would friend me back. I friend people who had tweets that I want to read, plain and simple. And even when other people friend me, I check out their Tweets before I friend them back. I use it to pick up new things and for my own random brain farts. If I get any promotional effect from this, it is just a side effect and I like it that way
